What i-City is actually like to stay in.
Most people know i-City as somewhere you drive to for a night out and drive home from. Staying inside it is a different thing, and the trip that changed most recently is how you get here at all — the LRT reached Seksyen 7 in June.
Getting here changed in June 2026
The LRT3 Shah Alam Line opened on 29 June 2026, and its Seksyen 7 Shah Alam station is about a kilometre from Central i-City — a walk of roughly ten minutes, or one stop on a feeder bus if it's raining, which in Shah Alam it will be at about five in the afternoon.
That is genuinely new. Until this year the only sensible way into i-City was to drive or book a Grab, and half the reason guests asked about parking was that they had no alternative. The line runs from Bandar Utama down through Shah Alam to Klang, so if you're coming from the MRT at Bandar Utama you can now reach the front door on rail.
If you are driving anyway, both units come with a reserved covered bay, which spares you the thing everyone complains about on a Saturday night.

Road times are the honest kind — good on a Sunday morning, considerably worse at six on a Friday.
What's here
The City of Digital Lights. The reason i-City is on anybody's list: an outdoor park filled with LED trees and light sculptures, which only makes sense after dark. It gets busy from late afternoon on a weekend. Staying here means you can wait until nine, when the day crowd starts leaving, and walk over.
SnoWalk and WaterWorld. A sub-zero snow attraction and a water park, next to each other, which is a combination only Malaysia would think of and it works. Both are ticketed separately.
Central i-City mall. Opened in 2019, a joint venture between Thailand's Central Pattana and i-Berhad, with more than 365 shops, a supermarket for the things you forgot to pack, and a cinema. This is the practical one — it's where you'll end up for groceries, a coffee, or dinner when nobody feels like deciding.
The rest of Shah Alam. The Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque — the Blue Mosque, one of the largest in Southeast Asia — is a short drive away and worth the morning. Stadium Shah Alam, UiTM and the lake gardens are all within the same handful of kilometres.
Who tends to stay here
Three kinds of guest, in roughly equal measure. Families in for the theme park, who want to walk back rather than drive tired children home at eleven. People working in Shah Alam for a few days, which is why the fibre line in the Hyde Tower unit matters more than it might sound. And couples who wanted somewhere between KL and Klang without paying KL prices.
The thing I'd tell a first-timer: don't try to do the light park and the mall on the same evening. Do the mall first, eat, then go over when it's properly dark. You'll queue for less and the photographs come out better.

Night. The light park is the point, and it needs the dark.
Which is the quiet advantage of sleeping here rather than driving in — you can go late.
- Do I need a car?

Not any more, though it's still easier with one.
The mall, the theme park and the food are walkable from the units. For anywhere else in Shah Alam, a Grab or the LRT will do it.
- How far is the walk to the mall?

A covered bridge from the block, so a few minutes and no umbrella.
Both units are in the towers nearest that bridge. There's a convenience store at Level UG and a food truck outside the lobby for everything else.
